It’s been a few years since this was posted, and as of August 20205 the Hound & Gatos website FAQ now says the following:

“Where are your canned products made and sourced?

Every Hound & Gatos wet recipe is carefully prepared in a state-of-the-art facility, right here in the USA. The majority of meat, fish and poultry we use is USA sourced. Our products are Made in the USA from the world’s best ingredients!”

The statement page that Mallory linked to in December 2022 is no longer available.

Hi Craig, I am the Brand Manager at H&G and wanted to take a moment to address your comment. I know this is from 2022 but we recently had someone contact us regarding this concern. We did produce our Chicken out of EU in 2020. This was to offset supply chain issues in the US and ensure we remained in stock during Covid. We had two batch runs before fully moving back to the US. Since July 2021 we are fully producing back in the US. It does take some time for cans to move through the market, but as of Jan 2023 we do not show any stores reporting these lots in stock. Hi! I recently bought Hound & Gatos Chicken & liver pate and unfortunately have been finding pretty large bits of black plastic in every single can (going on 8+ cans now). I’ve tried contacting them via the form on their website, email, and by phone (which went to voicemail and said they’d return our call, and have not). I’ve seen other reviews on Chewy (now that I’ve dug in) that have also been finding bits of black plastic in theirs going back at least to February. Would not recommend.

In reply to Craig Rupert. About the additional processing plant in Ecuador …. the press release has been removed from their website and I can’t find any reference to the manufacturing facility anywhere. Does anybody know if they stopped using the facility in Ecuador?

Ordered my 1st case of H&G Pork pate and my very 1st can had a large, almost black clump in the middle. I called them and was asked for the codes on the bottom. I went to get an unopened can from the case and noticed black soot on several of the top cans — probably what was inside the can. The rep (Cathy, I think) took my name and address and said she’d send a replacement case. A couple weeks went by with nothing from them, so I called again. Cathy said she remembered our conversation, and would send a case to me right away. Unfortunately, I had to take an urgent call, and told her I’d call back shortly. I called back less than 10 minutes later, but my call went to voicemail. Same, an hour later, and a couple of hours after that. I also sent a message through their website, and called the next day. It is very obvious that she does not intend to send a replacement or communicate with me again. This situation with H&G is as unacceptable as their tainted cat food.
By the way, I was not asked to return the tainted case, but I wanted to so they could see it for themselves, so she said she’d email a return label. I didn’t get that either.

Fed my cats this food for 2 years but recently the product consistency of the canned chicken formula has been suspicious to say the least. It went from a firm pate to a liquidy mess. When reading reviews on chewy, the liquidy cans have resulting in multiple ER visits for GI distress. the company seems to be ignoring these complaints. Super sad and concerning as my cats used to love this food. Going to try smalls instead as they are similarly minimal ingredient.
