It is misleading that Lotus has never been recalled, it is that they REFUSE to recognize issues so DON'T recall. My cats used to eat the rabbit pate. A few years ago, both got sick (vomiting, diarrhea) after eating a can; I noticed the food was a different color than prior cans from a different batch. I took it to Centinela Feed, the manager opened a can of the same batch, also noticed that it was a markedly different color, said they would notify Lotus; the response was that it was a different source of rabbit, and it was fine.
They did NOTHING else, leaving me to sort out how to avoid that batch. (I stopped using that food altogether on the advice of my vet, who said Lotus doesn't address issues.)
The same thing happened with their frozen food (notified Lotus of issues, the response was they are a small company). We no longer use any of their products

My cat has been eating Lotus Venison wet for almost 5 years. 2 years ago the formula changed and the food looked more "white" like a high fat content. I conttacted Lotus and they said they switched suppiers. My cat would not touch it for 2 years. He just started back eating it when it's dard brown and looked like it originally did. There continues to be quality issues with this Lotus cat food. Every batch looks different and smells different. This cat was raised on Lotus and it was difficult to find something else he would eat. It's also expensive for the lack of quality. Lotus told me that the "labs" were good, meaning baterial, etc but that's not the whole issue. Every case I purchase is different from 3 different retailers and most of the time he won't eat it. Recently had 2 almost exploding swollen cans out of one case. Not happy at all with Lotus anymore.

Hi Amara,

phosphate can contribute to an increased risk of kidney disease, especially in individuals with pre-existing kidney conditions, if your cat suffers from the a kidney condition its best to talk to your vet about a low phosphate cat food

I ordered the turkey, but received the venison. 3 of the cans were actually swollen. I read reviews on Amazon that others also received swollen cans and really bad food - almost all water and large pieces of rubbery organs. My cat really likes the Just Juicy, but it is sounding like the quality is abysmal. I may have to stop getting it.

I started my two 14 year old cats on this about 9 months ago - I have a cat with IBD who is a picky eater and can not tolerate chicken, fish or beef. I have tried every food imaginable, he eats two bites and walks away and he puked at least 3 times a week - it was a struggle to keep his weight up. Then I found this food, He literally is obsessed with Lotus Venison. He actually begs for food now and eats 2-3 cans daily, and he hasn't vomited once since I started him on it. It is costing me a fortune but I thought well worth it. The boys had their annual check up a few weeks ago - their urine is concentrated, but blood tests came back with very high kidney values. The only thing I changed this year was the food. I am now feeding one of my cats Weruva (the food I fed them most of their life) and we will retest in a month to see if his levels decrease - if they do, then I am going to have to switch my other cat too. My vet emailed Lotus a few weeks ago to see if other cats who switched to this food also start reporting high kidney values, but she never got a response from them. I will let you know once we retest in January.

My cats ate the Lotus Just Juicy Venison Stew very happily for 2 cases I ordered from Chewy. The last case I received however, they won’t touch. I ordered a replacement case from Amazon and they won’t touch that one either. The food doesn’t smell or look the same as it did. I don’t know if they just made some bad batches or what, but I’m very disappointed. This food is pricey and I’m really not happy about wasting two cases of the stuff.

Hi Sheila! Feeding a cat with presumed CKD myself, I can very much appreciate these challenges! I wonder if you might be able to find some other good options from Tanya's guide here.
