Used to be quite contented w/value and cost of Merrick. This yr, i’ve been noticing there is more & more liquid, less food. While I used to give 1/3 can 3 times per day, now it’s too soupy. I can only get 2 servings, to make up same amt of food that was 3 servings, costing me more money : / Have trusted brand for at least 10- 15 yrs. Very disappointed as “limited ingredient” is advised by my Vet for this particular kitty. : /. Will b looking for alternative cat food.

Hi Alissa, thanks for pointing this out. It does look like Merrick has reformulated the product. Mallory will no longer be handling comments but I'll bring this issue to the attention of our editorial team so we can work on an update!

HI Mallory,
It seems like Merrick has updated their canned foods a little. I noticed that in their turkey flavor they only included cranberries as their 7th ingredient, and contained no alfalfa grass or other plant materials, except for guar gum as a thickener, which was about 14th on this list. I'd like to please get your opinion on their "improved" line-up. Thanks as always! :)

Hi, Mallory. I have a ten-year old cat named Midas who was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He's on methimazole 0.25 ml twice daily. I'm currently feeding him Merrick Purrfect Bistro Real Chicken/Sweet Potato. Apart from the powdery waste that seems to be the case with each delivery, I was wondering if this food is a good food for his specific problem, regardless that he doesn't eat very much of it when he's hungry. It's also a problem that he refuses to eat wet food, and I've tried the top-of-the-line. Smalls, Ziwi, etc. Nothing. I'm hesitant to try Merrick's wet pate (he would only eat Pate with gravy when he was eating Friskies, which I stopped after his diagnosis). I may try the Merrick wet food, but is it harmful to mix different products geared to his specific illness? Such as Instinct dry grain-free food with the Purrfect Bistro wet pate? Any combination of food geared to his illness?

Hi! Thanks for sharing! It does appear that Merrick has changed their recipes, now using agar-agar instead of carrageenan! This piece is in need of an update; thanks for flagging that!

In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/merrick-cat-food-review#comment-81912">Christine Cordova Leyva</a>.

Hello Christine, thank you for commenting! It's great to have you here. I see nothing strange about a cat hating fish. All cats have their own preferences, and it sounds like yours have an exceptionally varied diet. Having a preference like that is not indicative of a problem at all!
