In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/best-dry-cat-food#comment-12373">Mike</a>.

it's clear that a lot of research and real-world testing went into these rankings. As a cat owner trying to balance quality, nutrition, and digestibility, I found the attention to protein sources, carb levels, and ingredients like salmon oil especially valuable.

One thing that caught my attention lately, which I didn’t see mentioned, is the growing use of probiotics like Bacillus coagulans probiotics in some newer dry food formulations. It’s a spore-forming probiotic, which means it can survive the high heat of kibble processing — unlike many traditional strains. I've read research and heard from a few vets that Bacillus coagulans can be particularly helpful for digestive health, improving stool quality and supporting immunity, especially in cats with sensitive stomachs or those recovering from antibiotic use.

It would be really interesting to see future comparisons include dry cat foods that use stable, science-backed probiotics like Bacillus coagulans. I think gut health is going to be a bigger focus in pet nutrition moving forward.

Thank you for posting all this information and all of your hard work! I've done a lot of research on cat foods as well. And running a small cat shelter it's getting more difficult every day to feed these animals. Good quality food! We do feed them a lot of canned food however they do need some dry as it would just be totally cost prohibitive to feed them all canned food all day. I just wish some pet food companies will quit charging such high prices for the food that they are selling. And that they would make better quality foods for our cats more reasonable.

Hi Theresa,

If your cat’s skin issues persist despite the food change, consider ruling out environmental allergies, parasites, or underlying health conditions with your vet. You might also try a limited-ingredient diet or a novel protein diet to see if a different food better suits her needs. You can read more here: cats.com/best-limited-ingredient-cat-food.
