Bought Royal Canin mother and baby cat and I have been using this for many years. All the cats 13 in total have suffered vomiting diarrhoea after one day eating this. They have now been on hunger strike for 3 days will not eat anything. Royal Canin completely unhelpful and offering a free bag. Why would I want a free bag of this poison? I hope my cats survive. As a breeder I put my trust in the pet food company that they sell me food that is not going to poison my cats. Be warned about Royal Canin

In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/royal-canin-cat-food-review#comment-40560">Elliot Horn</a>.

My cat Mary was diagnosed with IBD in January - I had been feeding her a predominantly grain free diet her whole life (cycled through Canidae/Taste of the Wild/Meals for Meows over 8yrs), and switched her to RC Lightweight a when she went off the MfM and had become a lot less active/gained some weight. Not long after I started noticing small brown spots on the floor or windowsill’s where she would sit - took her to the vet who ruled out anal glands and said to keep monitoring her. Fast forward 6months and she was diagnosed with IBD. I didn’t think twice about the food as I had the false belief it was superior quality. I took my vets advice to try her on a hydrolysed kibble (as we had no success getting her to eat novel proteins - we are also in Aus and options are limited) and eventually found she would eat the RC Hypoallergenic. She is also on Prednisolone and gets an ouch of Feline Naturals wet food. Her stools became soft and runny at the ends, which I could never figure out and thought it might just be due to the inflammation taking time to resolve. About 4 months into this we ended up at the emergency clinic with acute pancreatitis! She had a 4 night stay and was eating only wet food during this time. Since getting her home I have removed the RC kibble completely and her stools have never been better. It’s only now that I am making the connection and feeling as though RC may have been the cause of her IBD in the first place…

Been feeding my Ragamuffin Royal Canin Instinctive for four years and now has developed IBD. Opened a can yesterday and it has a big black blob in the food. Contacted Royal Canin and they said it was pork and chicken byproducts that hadn’t been chopped up. It was totally disgusting. They would not refund me and told me to donate the rest of the case to an animal shelter! What the heck… why would I donate something that would make other cats sick! Terrible support and do not recommend anyone feeding this to their cats. Now my cat can only eat rabbit…
Wish I could show you a picture of it… looks like an alien in the can.

You wrote "you could find much more carnivore-appropriate foods at a lower price." but you don't list any better quality dry foods at lower prices. I have now rescued 6 cats and can't afford to stay on Royal. I want to switch to a better quality, but less costly alternative, if it exists.

My female "moggy" has IBS and the vet suggested feeding her and her brother the veterinarian specific diet to help her and that was fine for a few boxes until they wouldn't touch it which unfortunately happened to coincide with Easter, almost everything is closed. In a panic I started feeding her a supermarket food I had already, her brothers, which she ate ravenously. Rang Royal Canin on Tuesday/Wednesday only to be told that yes the recipe had changed and that the caramel,?, had been removed and so that was what changed. My cats have now resumed eating the Royal Canin Indoor and are quite happy although my little girl is not as she once was but at least I haven't lost her. Both cats are over 7 years old and generally healthy.

In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/royal-canin-cat-food-review#comment-35720">Krista</a>.

I tried Royal Canin Neutered Satuety Balancefor my cat as vet suggested some kind of food that helps not to be overweight. I fed it only sometimes and sometimes mixed with purine kibble. The 1.5 kg packet has nearly gone. Today though I’ve fed him only the Royal Canin and this evening he seemed not to want it. Finally he ate some and vomited it up after a yowl of distress.
