This company lies and offers no flexibility. The food is supposed to arrive frozen or at least cold; their website states that they ship with at least 15 lbs of dry ice. My last 2 shipments arrived warm, with the dry ice totally melted. They replaced 1 order, then the second one. I was told to re-freeze it. Not sure I wanted to do that, my current order was to be shipped and received a week ago, I received confirmation that it would arrive on 11/29, even received email confirmation, order never arrived, contacted them and they said they didnt ship due to holiday, well wht did I get a confrimation, I still have not received my order, it is no a week late, yesterday received confirmation it wopuld arrive 12/8, this morning it says it will arrive 12/7. There is no consistency, and the customer service is nonexistent; their advertising is false.
If you are shipping frozen product, why are you shipping via ground? According to FedEx, my order shipped on 11/28. Today is 12/6, this should be shipped overnight or at least second day. I am canceling my subscription, since I can't depend on the product being cold on arrival or frozen, as they state, and not arriving on time. For the price they charge, they can deliver second day. I do not recommend this company at all

Buyer beware - Smalls is owned by a private equity firm and the singular focus of private equity is wealth extraction. Private equity firms are getting into every aspect of pet care these days, buying up pet food companies, veterinary establishments, etc., etc. You may have noticed the rapidly increasing costs of veterinary care - you can thank private equity firms for that. Read the article in The Nation :"The Billionaire Oligarchs are Coming for Your Pets" or the book by Chuck Collins, former heir to the Oscar Mayer fortune, "Burned by Billionaires" for more information on this disturbing trend. On a personal level, I found the customer service at Smalls abominable, and I'm really skeptical about the quality of their food - as you should be also. The company and this article maintains that they use human-grade ingredients, but USDA certification or anything providing evidence of 'human grade' ingredients is nowhere to be found.

I gave this brand a try and at the beginning my cats loved it. As time went on they started eating less of it, even turning up their noses to it. Then I noticed 4 of my cats were getting a reddish tint to their coats. Nothing had changed in their diet as I served this wet food exclusively. As a note, they ate moist in evenings and dry kibble (royal canin) sprayed with water to moisten the kibble, in the mornings (& sometimes I’d mix the dry and wet). I decided to stop the subscription further letting Smalls know what had occured. I could only assume it had to do with some ingredient(s) in the wet food? I never received a response to my concern. And I never resubscribed. It was many months before the reddish tint disappeared on my cats. Smalls never responded to my concern which was disappointing. Maybe I was the only one whose cats incurred this odd phenomenon? In fairness, I never had an issue with communicating with them. They were prompt to answer and also very helpful and generous with a problem I had with one of my shipments.

Our cat Cleo started vomiting hair balls when she was about a year in a half. I tried a number of products and different foods to help alleviate this issue, and she ended up just not eating enough food. During about a 4 month period she dropped a lot of weight. I brought her to the vet and they suggested that I deworm her. I also thought at that time to change her food to something more natural as some pets have food sensitivities. I found Smalls on my FB feed, and thought to give it a try. This food has been a GAME CHANGER for Cleo! Fast forward 2 months of being on this brand, and she has gained weight back, is so much happier, energetic and playful. This food has changed her life, and frankly I think saved her life. Smalls also took such good care of us while we ramped up our program, so a shout out to the Customer Service team! All-in-all if you have a pet that may have food sensitivities, I'd recommend giving this brand a try!

In reply to <a href="https://cats.com/smalls-for-smalls-cat-food-review#comment-158835">Kathryne Caudle</a>.

I have never had any issues reaching Smalls customer service. They can be reached either by text or email, both clearly listed on their website. I usually text because it is easier for me and I have always received a prompt response. Sometimes delays happen during the shipping process and, during the summer months, I have had food arrive days late and not frozen. Carrier delays in transit are beyond the control of Smalls. I have been offered replacement or refund by Smalls and my choice has been carried out promptly. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Ordering pet food online is definitely more of a process than running to the pet or grocery store, but worth the trouble (for me at least) for the food quality.

This is a valid point, our estimate is that because this is a cooked formula and not a raw or whole-prey diet, some added fiber — such as green beans — is often used to help support digestion and stool quality. In a raw diet, that role would typically be filled by natural roughage like fur, feathers, or cartilage, which affects most commercial foods due to the different types of cooking methods. We'll reach out to the team at Smalls to see if we can get a answer from them as well.

I have a problem with the second ingredient in a lot of formulas being green beans and then usually followed by other vegetables in the top 5 ingredients list. How are green beans an acceptable ingredient in a carnivore’s diet? Do not try to tell me it is easy to digest because if you believe that vegetables can source bioavailable nutrients to a carnivore’s diet then you are probably not the person that should be writing these reviews. No offense intended.

I'm very disappointed in this company. They have no customer service or support that you can reach if there's a problem. The food is really expensive so when it doesn't arrive on time or arrives hot and rancid instead of frozen. This has happened twice in the last 6 months. You have no one to help you. Awful 😔 I'm so sad because my cat's love the food.

Thanks for posting your experience. If they are still charging you after you definitely cancelled, you may want to consider filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and report it as a fraudulent charge with your credit card company.
