You're absolutely right that cost per calorie can be a more meaningful metric, especially for those who feed based on caloric needs rather than volume. It offers a clearer picture of a food's true value. We'll work on incorporating cost-per-calorie estimates into the “How Much Does It Cost” section of our reviews moving forward.

A suggestion about gauging the cost of a cat food: You estimate the cost of this and other foods per ounce. But I think that the most telling measure is cost per calorie. For example: Tuft and Paw Chicken and Rabbit Stew contains 123 calories in a 5.5-ounce box. A similar food that you review, Open Farm Herring and Mackerel Rustic Blend, contains 149 calories in a 5.5-ounce box (their Harvest Chicken Rustic Blend, which you don't review, contains 167 calories per 5.5-ounce box). So if you are calculating your cat's portions based on calorie content, clearly the Open Farm wet foods are a better value PER CALORIE (i.e., provide more calories per ounce) than the Tuft and Paw. Since many people do count calories in feeing their cats, I think that this would be a more helpful way of presenting the true cost of the cat foods--so I suggest that you add a cost-per-calorie calculation to the "How Much Does It Cost" section of your reviews.
